There are certain factors that should be considered while writing an email. After drafting an email, use spell checker to make sure that each word is spelt correctly. Now a days, most email software packages come with spell checker. Choose your words carefully. Unlike a conversation, written words can be misinterpreted easily.
It is a good habit to send an acknowledgment mail to the sender. Replying to the mail or not is at your discretion.
